New Designers under the spotlight part 3
Daze what a cool logo and playful name. I simply loved it yet about this first catwalk experience. I have seen Daze’s T-shirts previously before they ever made it to the Malta Fashion Week, however this short presentation was somehow missing the essentials. The models were quite casual but also quite diverse in height and other features. Influenced by the skating lifestyle one could say there was a purpose behind this yet the collection seemed a bit chaotic to me and if I didn’t know she is capable to do better I would not say this. I know she has very innovative ideas about cool T-shirt designs so I expect to see more next time.
Edith’s collection was definitely great in terms of accessorize. In terms of clothing the models presented would be better adapted in the theatre or movies stage yet to me the summer concept was somehow absent. Edith though can create the impossible in accessorize and she will mix and match different materials that could create something truly unique. In terms of fashion I just expected to see a bit more. Not to be disappointed I’m sure Edith as her brand s called could accessorize with no limits.
Marie Ahoy I must say very innovative and very edge cutting designs, yet they did not manage to enchant the public for the fact they went a bit too far and showed a bit too much. Color wise there was no one like another design but they seemed to me like they were just assembled on the models straight before they were presented on the catwalk. My personal view is that Marie Ahoy has ideas but they must be well implemented because on a slightly more conservative island like Malta they may seem more shocking rather than fashion inspired.
Lukka came about in this category slightly because I really expected more of him. His designs presented well-crafted thoughts but were somehow very moderate and we could not really see his true self in them. For me the best one was the sparkling long dress because it reflected more on his individuality, however knowing Lukka I know he is capable to come with something more provoking and desired for the summer season.
Sarah Caruana Dingli’s collection presented interesting and quite unique skirts, yet the combination of colors seemed to be chaotic and lacked coordination. Sarah is another designer with potential but she somehow got lost in too many colors that did not blend well with one another. The Marie-Antoinette kind of skirt is definitely something interesting presented by Sarah.
