Sai Suman presented her new collection tonight at Mercedes-Benz Malta Fashion Week, however this short interview reveals more about the personality and personal inspirations of the woman that has achieved such a great success internationally. 1: What inspired you for the collection that you will be presenting during Mercedes-Benz Malta Fashion Week 2015?
I am a very adventurous person, in many aspects. I’ve also been quite inspired by wildlife, the jungle and exotic animals and during my travels in different countries, I enjoy trekking through and visiting these types of natural environments.
After seeing a beautiful rain forest from my recent visit from Australia, it sparked an idea and gave me inspiration to have each piece from different components in a jungle – a Exotic Jungle, that is.
The collection is called, “Exotic Jungle” and I’m very excited about this collection.
2: What are the main trends this season in your opinion?
In my opinion, this season, the main fashion trends will consist of sheer silhouettes, florals, prints, and avant-garde statement pieces.
3: What inspired you to create your own fashion brand?
The world of fashion has always been ultimate my passion – and always will. I first began judging fashion shows, then choreographing and consulting other designer shows, styling and making costumes in the Bollywood scene – which soon made my brand, Sai Suman, to emerge from it all.
4: Which international venues have you presented your collections at?
My various collections has been showcased at New York Fashion Week (Couture Fashion Week), Mercedes Benz Fashion Week Australia, Dubai Fashion Week and many runway shows in my home, India.
5: Which international brands do you follow or inspire you?
I am most inspired by the legendary and brand, Alexander McQueen.
6: What kind of designs do you enjoy doing most?
My forte is wearable art! I enjoy creating haute couture that’s surreal, yet unique and artistic.
