Preview with Gabrielle
Gabrielle is a very young designer who showed interest in fashion at an early age and attended arts classes with Ray Pitre gathering a lot of inspiration as well as influence. Her success in fashion is evident because at 22 she is already showcasing her first collection. What inspired her for it seems to be a quite interesting mix of different densities and fabrics as well as very interesting colors and palette. ‘Muted Mutiny’ is an expression of a delicate rebellion but from I see I am sure she will be able to impress the fashion crowd and put her name firmly on the Maltese fashion scene. I must say the colors palette looks really fascinating and I cannot wait to see the full collection during today’s show. Here is a short interview with Gabrielle.
1: What inspired you for the collection that you will be presenting during Mercedes-Benz Malta Fashion Week 2015?
I was inspired by my surroundings and by the self; not in an egocentric way but rather as putting myself under scrutiny in order to portray myself to the audience. Inspired by the Mediterranean, Malta’s history and culture but with a twist.
2: What are the main trends this season in your opinion?
Even though I believe that style is a form of self-expression, there are always some trends which stand out. This year denim is experiencing a comeback, street style and sports wear, the 90s are still with us and white is always in season.
3: What inspired you to create your own fashion brand?
Honestly I can’t remember an episode in my life where I can say I was inspired to create my own brand. Coming from a creative family art and fashion was always a huge part of my life. I always knew I wanted to do this and finally I’m living my dream.
4: Is this the first time you participate in Malta Fashion Week and have you also participated in any other Fashion events abroad?
This is the first time I shall be participating in Malta fashion week and looking forward for the ones to come..
5: Which international brands do you follow or inspire you?
I do not follow any particular brand but am influenced by many, mainly diesel, Alexander McQueen and Chanel.
6: Do you have plans to expand outside of Malta?
Day by day. That’s my motto but if the opportunity comes why not?
7: What kind of designs do you enjoy doing most?
I enjoy doing all my designs, they’re my babies but I do love a challenge so probably the most intricate ones, because I get a greater sense of satisfaction
8: What would you like to achieve, what are your future plans and is there a brand which success you would like to follow?
I am my own person so I do not expect my journey in the fashion industry to be like another’s, but I would love to establish the brand and see what happens from there. Day by day J
