New Designers under the spotlight part 1
Gabrielle presented I must say the most interesting color palette for the Spring/Summer season in her collection. On the other end her soft rebellion collection reminded me of Alexander McQueen but coupled with a Greek mystic touch. I definitely fell in love with her collection and I must say for a young designer they were brilliantly presented. One thing is certain she is so young and yet with so many great ideas. I would not be surprised if in the years to come her designs appear on the red carpet not only in Malta but abroad. The collection overall was very summary and the only drawback that could be seen was maybe the choice of models and fit of clothes on models, yet it is important to emphasize that it is usually a choice not made by themselves and cannot be blamed for it. Her future as a designer is bright and promises for success. And my personal winner amongst what she showcased is…
Margo de Vidal is not only a charismatic and creative person but her collection was definitely the best opening of the New Designers Fashion show I;ve seen so far. The collection that she presented definitely classifies her as one of my top five of the night. I loved the materials used, the color patterns that very much spoke of summer as well as the fit of the clothing itself. The combination between accessories and colors definitely had a very well thought theme and probably the only thing that I found to be not so great was the music arrangement that was far from slow movement. Yet I must say I would definitely wear any of the pieces she presented and I think this year she managed to really wow the audience. She is simply a star.
Another very summary with pale colors and delicate flowers suggestion for Spring/Summer came by Poschet. Her collection is light and delicate as well as romantic. The bags designed were also not by anything worse than the clothing and t-shirts presented. It came like a light breeze and felt like the models were somewhere on the Cote d’Azure or Santorini and not on the catwalk. Its really rare for a new designer to make you feel like you are somewhere else but she managed and the applauses followed. So I would definitely add a T-shirt of hers to my shopping basket for the summer and don’t forget oh that bag with the flowers so much St.Tropez.
The next positive surprise was delivered by Maria Cutajar. As she shared in her earlier interview on the blog she is still a student in Florence, yet her collection was just amazing and gorgeous and so close to perfection. She definitely has great creative mind, ideas and style sense that a young designer would need years to develop. Although, maybe not so summary her clothes bear the class of Chanel and the style of the greatest modern fashion icons. They all had Maria’s personal touch but delivered I such a classy and chic way. Honestly Maria managed to make a miracle on that catwalk and I believe everyone in the audience appreciated that. I would definitely go for that amazing white design of hers…you cannot deny it she has a talent.
Last but not least in my top five is Gaetano,who could blow away the mind of any woman with the sexy yet elegant design of his dresses. Some might say they are too revealing but I think Gaetano could make a woman shine and bright like a diamond even if the phrase is a bit cliché. Gaetano knows how to emphasize the body shop and how to make you feel sexy, elegant and a overall star. Wherever you appear with his designs you will definitely be one. Again his talent could be seen from far and not much is needed to be said, considering the never-ending applauses of those masterpieces.
