Charlene and Angelique shared a common passion towards arts and design, which made it even easier for them to create the colorful brand CreativeFactory7. They presented their first collection five years ago during the Malta Fashion Week, which was the first to be organized too. The brand grew organically ever since and no wonder why. I love the colors, fabrics and visual art that clearly inspires these dresses. Being myself a person who likes a bit of color and everything I wear I must say that their new collection looks more than promising to me. Both designers like to experiment and the result is just stunning. The label not only screams colors, unique patterns but also it has included landscapes and other unusual but very successful designs. This year’s show name, which is Paper Fans promises no less but to be fabulous. It is hugely influenced by Japanese Culture and I just can’t wait to see the full collection this coming Sunday. Angelique and Charlene share in a short interview a glimpse of he new collection inspiration as well as their ideas for the future.
1: What inspired you for the collection that you will be presenting during Mercedes-Benz Malta Fashion Week 2015?
We wanted to deviate a bit from past years, and considering both me and Angelique are getting married this summer, we were inspired to expand the choices of elegant clothes available on the market.
The look we are going after this year is elegant yet fun and particular. Our 2015 collection is called ‘Paper Fans’ because that is what the print is all about. The 3D paper fans were made and painted in watercolor, then photographed, edited and printed on fabric. We also linked the paper fans, usually used for party decorations to give the dresses a Japanese feel, as fans play an important part in Japan’s ceremonial traditions. We will incorporate this theme in the make up, hair and catwalk music as well.
2: What will be the main trends this season in your opinion?
Culottes, kimonos, bohemian/70’s style, crop tops, fringes, laces, appliques, florals, jumpsuits, tulle skirts/sheer fabrics, and transparencies.
3: What inspired you to create CF7?
CF7 started with a passion towards art. Me and Angelique had been experimenting with painting on different kinds of surfaces for a long time, until clothes became our favorite canvas. One fine day we were given the opportunity by Adrian Mizzi to expose our work at the very first MFW. CF7 brand started evolving from there!
I think our style is easily recognizable and has attracted more fans especially after we showcased our first solo fashion show ‘Biosphere’ last year at the MFW.
4: How often and when are new styles introduced? Are designs being ordered in advance or could be purchased directly?
We work hard each and every year to present an innovative collection at the MFW. A collection takes a minimum of six months from conception to catwalk. The collections are then available for sale by ordering directly from us. Catwalk collections are usually a size 6-8, and can be altered slightly according to the customer ‘s size, however, each outfit is a one off. During the year we do commissions, custom made pieces, scarves and brooches. Our past work can also be seen on www.creativefactory7.com
5: Which international brands do you follow or inspire you?
We are always looking at different inspirations, this year we followed particularly Elie Saab, Georges Chakra, Zuhair Murad and all time favorites D&G.
6: Do you have plans to expand outside of Malta?
We are glad that the fashion industry is expanding in Malta, but if we are given the opportunity, yes we would give it a try!
7: Do you also design bridesmaid’s dresses?
Yes of course. This year’s collection is targeted at morning and evening weddings, bridesmaid dresses, and special occasions. The Paper Fan collection can also be ordered in customized pieces.
8: What would you like to achieve, what are your future plans and is there a brand which success you would like to follow?
We would like to see CF7 as an established name in Malta. We plan to continue improve and reinvent our brand from time to time and keep that creativity flowing!!
