Something different by DAZE
Sarah Scicluna is the creative mind and designer behind the brand Daze. Although, you may have heard of it already, Daze is something different and even though the concept is simple, it is quite original and appealing to the young generation. What could be better for enjoying the island lifestyle than a cool T-shirt design. But Sarah’s ambitions don’t stop here and her online store is operating internationally. When I look at the T-shirts she designs it reminds me of the skate culture and places like LA in USA. Sarah shares here what inspires her T-shirt designs, which she will be presenting during the New Designers Fashion Show. I wish Daze good luck although I’m certain her T-shirt designs will receive a warm welcome by the crowd.
1: What inspired you for the collection that you will be presenting during Mercedes-Benz Malta Fashion Week 2015?
90’s culture, music and everyday street culture/style.
2: What are the main trends this season in your opinion?
70’s denim, suede, mixing and matching of patterns, as well as vintage fabrics.
3: What inspired you to create Daze?
As a graphic designer, I’m always looking for new projects to keep me busy. I had a bunch of ideas, mostly consisting of tongue-in-chic slogans, swirling around in my head. I thought why not take those ideas and transform them into everyday street wear.
4: Is this the first time you participate in Malta Fashion Week and have you also participated in any other Fashion events abroad?
We are Fashion Show Virgins! So it would be exciting to us since its our first time at Malta Fashion Week.
5: Which international brands do you follow or inspire you?
Lazy Oaf, Hype, Buy Me Brunch and Charleigh. I also get inspired through typography, which I see online.
6: Do you have plans to expand outside of Malta?
DAZE T-Shirts can be bought worldwide through our website, so it would be great to see it take off internationally.
7: What kind of designs do you enjoy doing most?
Typography with a small twist of illustration. Everyday phrases, tongue in chic slogans. Anything that I think speaks to the young generation of today.
8: What would you like to achieve, what are your future plans and is there a brand which success you would like to follow?
I don’t think too much into the future, however if DAZE were to become half the success of Lazy Oaf, It would be fantastic.
