Preview with Fretka designs
Stacey Spiteri, the designer and creator of Fretka Fashion, started designing already as a child and got inspired to do her own clothes at a very early age. Nowadays already having her own fashion brand she sources her inspiration from traveling and also from music concerts. Her concept of design is one that would make the woman feel both stylish and fashionable. Stacey will definitely put any woman under the spotlight with her designs that look elegant, smart and sometimes carefree. Although she has had experience during Malta Fashion Week previously, this year’s collection promises to be something special and about here she shares her inspiration. I wish good luck to Stacey’s new collection and I look forward to seeing her during the New Designers’ Fashion Show as part of Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week 2015.
1: What inspired you for the collection that you will be presenting during Mercedes-Benz Malta Fashion Week 2015?
The collection that I will be presenting during this year’s Mercedes-Benz Malta Fashion Week was inspired by the colors of the Sunset. I really like how the colors intertwine together and display a fabulous show for us to enjoy and I wanted to create something similar.
2: What are the main trends this season in your opinion?
In my opinion, this season fashion trends are looks inspired by the 70s such as flares, metallics, army colours (khaki & beige) and definitely black!!

3: What inspired you to create your own fashion brand?
From a very young age, I always loved designing. I remember, looking at my mothers’ whilst she was sewing and I would go and stitch together some fabric straps. Eventually, I started designing clothes for myself and that is where the passion flourished. Moreover, the name of the label Fretka was inspired by my beloved pet ferret Meeko, which as you might have gathered, Fretka means Ferret.

4: Is this the first time you participate in Malta Fashion Week and have you also participated in any other Fashion events abroad?
I have also participated during the first and the second edition of the Mercedes-Benz Malta Fashion Week which I treasure both experiences and I am really looking forward for this years edition. At present, I have not participated in other Fashion events abroad though I have participated in other local events, but who knows, someday I might get the opportunity to showcase my collections overseas.

5: Which international brands do you follow or inspire you?
I do not really follow any international brands as I mostly like to design styles according to my tastes and inspirations. However, I really like the designs of Ellie Saab, Zuhair Murad and Georges Chakra.

I really love to create designs that the woman out there can enjoy and wear every day that display her femininity, class and style.

8: What would you like to achieve, what are your future plans and is there a brand which success you would like to follow?
I would love for Fretka to be recognized in the Fashion Industry and would love to see my designs wore by women out there, which gives me the motivation to work on both for the future. As for a brand whose success I would like to follow is definitely Charles & Ron as they have achieved great success in both local and overseas fashion marketplace.
