You may have already seen Rebecca during some of the events being organized by Mercedes-Benz Malta Fashion Week but to unveil the cover a little bit, I asked the designer what truly inspires her in terms of fashion and her upcoming fashion show in Malta. Her dream may seem like a utopia to some but Rebecca definitely has a vision and fashion is what she loves doing most. ‘Dark paradise’ will be revealed tomorrow …
1: What inspired you for the collection that you will be presenting during Mercedes-Benz Malta Fashion Week 2015?
The collection is entitled ‘Dark Paradise’, it’s a narrative inspired by societies restrictions.
2: What are the main trends this season in your opinion?
We don’t follow trends, it’s important not to feed too much off of fashion otherwise designs start to get stagnant and unoriginal. At ATARAXI we get inspired by society and lifestyle, looking more into behavior trends than fashion trends. Individuality is a biggy, it’s all about being who you are, not what society tells you to be.
3: What inspired you to create your own fashion brand?
Inequality and sexism when it comes to menswear and womenswear, who wants to be pigeon holed or stereotyped?
4: Which international brands do you follow or inspire you?
I think that’s conflict of interest, but I did work for Margiela for a while.
5: What kind of designs do you enjoy doing most?
I enjoy all aspects of design.
6: What would you like to achieve, what are your future plans and is there a brand which success you would like to follow?
Having ATARAXI boutiques worldwide and influencing the way society shops for clothes. No longer will there be Menswear and Womenswear departments only Fashion departments for individuals.
7: Why did you decide to participate in Mercedes-Benz Malta Fashion week?
Malta is beautiful, I visited for the first time last November and fell in love with the island. It’s so inspiring and everyone is so lovely. For such a small island it has a buzzing fashion scene with so much talent, I knew that I had to be a part of it.
